kissd: a lightweight KiSS PC-Link Daemon

What is kissd ?

kissd is a simple daemon which enables a Linux box to stream videos, mp3 and pictures to a KiSS 15xx DVD/DiVX player.

kissd can also act as a KiSS Markup Language forwarder, enabling access to external sites like TinyStocks from your KiSS player.

kissd is:

lightweight
secure
written in C

The recent versions of kissd support:

browsing and streaming music, videos and pictures
forwarding to external KML sites
on-the-fly file filter using an external script, which can be used to resize pictures, re-encode videos etc.
"recently used" folder
playlist support (m3u, pls)

kissd initial versions were heavily based on kiss4lin by Jacob Kolding, which isn't maintained anymore.

How can I build and install it ?

You can either build and install directly from the source or, if you have a RPM based system create a RPM package and install it.

If you choose the first solution:

tar xvfj kissd-X.Y.tar.bz2
cd kissd-X.Y
make
make install

The second solution is even simpler:

rpmbuild -tb kissd-X.Y.tar.bz2
rpm -i kissd-X.Y.i386.rpm

How can I configure the paths to my videos/mp3/pictures ?

Just edit /etc/kissd.conf and put your own paths inside.

If you have several directories containing videos/mp3/pictures you must create a main directory and use symlinks from this main directory to access the other directories.
